Came across a very impressive organization this morning – MIRAlab at the University of Geneva. It describes itself as “a pluridisciplinary lab working on
virtual human simulation and virtual worlds”.
Archaeology pulls together many kinds of specialists. Reconstructing prehistory requires all sorts of disciplines.
So we usually describe archaeology as an interdisciplinary field. And Stanford is promoting many of these. The latest is environment and sustainability.
Inter-disciplinary. Or cross-disciplinary (cuts across edges and boundaries), extra-disciplinary (archaeologists often work outside the academy), trans-disciplinary (something trancendent to the academy’s disciplines). Pluri-disciplinary? It makes me think of many disciplines of course, but what about the connections?
Any more?
